Money for disgusting ad could be better spent

The average cost of a half-page newspaper ad in the United States is $20,000 per day. With all the hungry, needy, homeless and suffering people on Maui, there is no doubt that the $100,000 or more spent on the disgusting advertising asking to discriminate against same-sex couples in our state could have been better spent.

The 35 churches that publicly connected themselves with this anti-civil rights campaign need to turn on the light and get out of the dark, dingy closet.

I commend those writers who have spoken out already. An Oct. 18 letter writer said it very well when she stated, “The highest form of ignorance is when you reject something you don’t know anything about.”

I encourage our 35 shame-based churches to unite on a more loving and helpful project. Shame on you all.
