Same-sex marriage is a question of civil rights

As much as the homophobes and Christian right want to make this a religious issue, it is not.

It is a question of civil rights. Granting same-sex people equal rights to marry does not harm me or any other heterosexual person. Nor is it the death of the family. I’m heterosexual and have been married for more than 38 years.

Putting this to a vote, as the current distasteful TV ads demand, is nothing more than a call for mob rule. Our constitutional rights are guaranteed to protect us against this sort of discrimination and mob mentality.

Equal civil rights apply to everyone.
