Clarification offered on comments about audits

It has been brought to my attention that my comments related to the Wailuku Main Street Association audits (Viewpoint, Oct. 8) have been misconstrued.

I would like to retract any statements that imply that WMSA’s auditor did not follow proper procedures, that she was not a good auditor, was not thorough, competent or independent, and that the organization’s activities were rubber-stamped every year without having the proper questions asked.

The purpose of that article was to inform the public of my opinion that external audits are useful and that board of director members can facilitate thorough audits.
