D.A.R.E. program offers life-changing lessons
There is an ongoing debate about the effectiveness of the D.A.R.E. program. As a young adult, my insight would be yes, the D.A.R.E. program is a great thing for children.
It’s a chance to show them before they reach high school and middle school that drugs and drinking are bad for them. Also, when students go through the D.A.R.E. program they learn a lot from it, like all the different songs that are taught and how drugs affect a life. Police officers also come in and talk to students to tell what they’ve experienced when they see people under the influence.
When I went through the D.A.R.E. program, I felt very accomplished to know that what I learned can affect me in a good or a bad way, and that I can also prevent my peers from doing that. I also learned a lot more about how bad smoking and drinking can be toward one’s health. It was a great program for me to go through and I wouldn’t want any other child to miss out on that opportunity to learn about life-changing choices that can affect a life instantly.
