Thanksgiving a day for family, not for shopping

The announcements of stores being open on Thanksgiving (The Maui News, Nov. 21) goes against the holiday. It is time to be thankful and be with family and friends.

Those who have to work because stores are opening up early could easily be any of us. Shoppers who go to these stores should only hope their employer does not stay open next year and force them to work.

People should not shop that day and should enjoy a day off. I hope people boycott the stores and wait til the next day to begin Christmas shopping.
