Fight should be for land for affordable housing

I think that most of us agree that preserving the land between the pali and Puamana is important. Unfortunately, the mayor and the council cannot agree on a price for the land.

It is odd to me that we are preserving this land for future generations, but we are not buying land so that our children and grandchildren can hope for a home which does not require mom and dad to have a third or fourth job.

With two of my three daughters living on the Mainland, I ask myself, “Why are we not fighting for land for the houses Mauians can afford to buy with the incomes we earn from the travel industry, government, construction and like jobs?” Maybe only our future tourists will enjoy the view from the pali to Puamana.
