Maui County Council members did a good job

Our County Council members put aside their personal differences of opinion and reservations about the Launiupoko purchase in the interest of the long-term public good. After witnessing the carefully considered discussion among council members, I believe that Maui will continue to be no ka oi and that pono will be the catch word.

The encouraging testimony from the community – especially kupuna, who had seemed to be so reluctant to voice their desires in the media – showed what heart we have on Maui. But providing testimony pales beside the daunting task was faced by council members. They had to evaluate facts and conflicting opinions, and we testifiers could only hope that we could tip the balance toward the protection of this potential beach park. Ultimately, the vote was theirs.

Mahalo nui loa, Maui County Council members.
