Plans to increase recycling on Maui encouraging
I have lived in Hawaii for more than 45 years, most of the time on Maui. I have seen a lot of changes in Hawaii during those years, including the growth of our landfill. I recently had an opportunity to read an opinion on the county’s new plan to handle all the rubbish going into the landfill. I was very impressed with the writer, Allen Herskowitz from the Natural Resources Defense Council.
The article said that the target for recycling was 75 percent to 80 percent. (Even 50 percent would be a vast improvement, as I’m told that it is currently under 2 percent.) I love Hawaii, and anything that helps keep this island beautiful for the children of Hawaii’s future is a great benefit. Thank you to everyone that is trying to make this happen.
