Solar energy should not be an us-versus-them issue

I found the Dec. 1 article on solar energy fairness both one-sided and inflammatory. It is not an us-versus-them issue.

Should we rail against Prius drivers for driving up gasoline prices? Energy production and use are islandwide issues.

There are different ways of capitalizing the production of energy and amortizing the expense: pay up front or pay as you go. The regulated energy market provides for both strategies.

Also, it must be noted that photovoltaic systems are typically installed on private homes and businesses by their owners. Perhaps The Maui News needs to address access to homeownership on the island before loading a discussion of energy production and use with charges of unfairness.
