Use eminent domain to secure Launiupoko property
A group of people (the sellers) want to sell the property (185 acres) to the county. They got it appraised at $13 million. But three people from the council thought it was too high. They got their own appraisal and they came up with two figures – the first was $9 million and the second was $6.5 million. But the sellers do not want to sell except for $13 million.
The lot is called Launiupoko. Mayor Alan Arakawa is really hooked into buying the property. I am against buying the property. Why not say we’ll buy the property under eminent domain so that the county can take the property and pay the sellers their fair share. Is eminent domain legal?
