Logic of e-cigarette ban should be applied to GMOs

The Maui News reported on Jan. 3 that the state Department of Health has decided to ban electronic cigarettes from all department properties.

One of the last projects signed by late Health Director Loretta Fuddy, the ban was done because “e-cigarettes have not been proved to be safe.”

I’m hopeful that this logical, prudent approach can be applied to to another big-money industry that has the potential for far-reaching affects on our public health: genetically modified organism technology.

I think it’s time to spread the logic.
