Would-be bus passenger is left stranded at night

Twice during the past six weeks I have been waiting for the last Upcountry bus and it has failed to stop at the designated stop. Both of these incidents happened on Kamehameha Avenue – once on the Safeway side and once on the Maui Mall side. Both drivers never even slowed down.

Part of the problem is poor visibility. Not only are those stops poorly lit but also the interior bus lights are on, creating strong backlighting. I believe the public would be better served if the night bus drivers turned their interior lights off when approaching these dark places.

Being stranded at night after work is not pleasant. I have talked with others who have had similar experiences, so this is not a new problem.

I really believe the county and Roberts need to improve the bus service. After all, we taxpayers help fund this service.
