Police handled ignorant questions with patience

I watched the news conference (The Maui News, Feb. 19) regarding the missing ladies – Ms. Carly “Charli” Scott and Ms. Moreira “Mo” Monsalve – with great concern and prayers for the families involved.

I was satisfied with the compassion and resolve showed by Maui Police Department Chief Gary Yabuta and Capt. John Jakubczak on getting to the bottom of this matter wherever it leads.

I also shook my head in disbelief at some of the questions asked by the media and Maui citizens. To ask, “Was the Bearcat used in the investigation?” “What was done with the blood and human remains found on the victim’s clothing?” “After your half day of investigation when was the last time MPD solved a murder?”

These questions were answered by Capt. Jakubczak and Chief Yabuta with the patience and compassion that speaks to why they are in their positions.

The questions tell me of the complete ignorance of watching one too many cop shows on TV, total disregard to family members that were in attendance and showboating by a fake media rag pretending to be part of the media.

My heart goes out to the families involved and a prayer was done.
