EPA should put hold on Monsanto chemicals
Regarding the front-page article “Monsanto submits report for ‘transparency'” (The Maui News, March 14), Monsanto listed atrazine as one of the herbicides it uses here on Maui and on Molokai.
And a March 17 letter refers to the results of a 15-year study on the effects atrazine is having on newborn babies in the areas atrazine is commonly used.
Question: Why hasn’t the Environmental Protection Agency put a hold on the use of this dangerous chemical until Monsanto can prove that it is safe? This is the law, why isn’t the EPA following the law. Who is running the EPA?
