Speed limits on South Kihei Road make no sense

I don’t get it. Driving on South Kihei Road northbound the speed limit is 30 mph but driving southbound it’s 20 mph.

The 30-mph limit is only at Cove and Kalama Beach parks, which make no sense since that is the place where most people cross the street with surfboards, paddleboards and kayaks.

The only reason I can figure might be that the highway department ran out of 20-mph signs.

I guess we just have to wait until new signs become available.
