Having more judges for Art Maui is not needed

I have entered Art Maui for the past 14 years, in a variety of media. I have been accepted five times by a variety of judges.

When my piece was rejected this year and I was told that just a little over 60 pieces from over 500 entries were selected, I was surprised by the numbers and, I admit, a little miffed.

But then I saw the show and, I have to say, it was one of the best Art Maui exhibits I have seen. Nearly every piece was of excellent quality, and the way the exhibit was put together made for a very well-proportioned show.

But who am I to judge? I am only an artist, art teacher and art lover. I am, in this case, the viewer, and after seeing many exhibits, this one really stood out. You don’t need to stuff a gallery with pieces that represent every artist on Maui. Having more judges would only create a crowded, disproportionate exhibit.

When I have had my pieces accepted into this exhibit, it is always an honor to have my piece displayed alongside Maui’s (and in many cases the world’s) great artists.

I say let Art Maui keep striving for quality and excellence.
