Proposed sports complex is needed in Central Maui

I am a 17-year resident of Kehalani subdivision. We need the Central Maui Sports Complex.

As a teacher and server who grew up on Maui, and who is raising three teenage girls, I am disgusted at the Mainland baby boomers who care nothing about the keiki in our community and bought a piece of Maui after raising their kids on the Mainland.

I’m sorry if their property values go down. Seriously doubtful. Soccer moms, softball coaches, etc., are constantly battling over park space for our kids to play organized sports. Efforts from Pono Athletic Club and Lt. Gov. Shan Tsutsui are tireless.

The next time someone knocks on the door selling tickets to go to Oahu or Mainland camps, throw a $20 their way. Please kokua. Our kids travel all year because there are no big tournaments on Maui.

The residents raised their kids and are now enjoying our aina without paying $600 per month association dues in West Maui or Wailea. They bought in a residential community with lots of children and schools, and we need a sports park.
