Females should apply for job as laborer instead

I have seen several letters in The Maui News recently from female entry-level government secretaries complaining that they should be paid the same as the male entry-level laborers.

I don’t understand why these ladies took the secretary job when they could have taken the laborer job. I’m sure the government doesn’t discriminate against the women who want to be laborers.

I suspect if they had to work hard with pickaxes and shovels in the hot sun and rain instead of in the air-conditioned offices shuffling papers around, after a few days or weeks they would gladly choose to work inside for a few dollars an hour less.
