Bicycle rider’s plea to drivers: Please slow down

If video games can be used as reasons for some violent crimes, I suggest that car commercials these days must certainly be held for how many people are driving.

I ride my bicycle almost exclusively through Lahaina every day. I can usually tell, from the sound of the tire treads, who’s coming up and what I should do. I must say, the working man’s trucks almost always give me plenty of room. But vans and SUVs will take you out.

Yes, I do blame texting or just the air-conditioned environment that these new vehicles provide.

I’m just asking: Please slow down.

Hang up and drive.
