Doctors looking forward to West Maui hospital

My name is Dr. Joseph Zajchowski. I am an emergency physician, licensed in the state of Hawaii, and I write to the good people of West Maui on behalf of myself, along with my ER colleagues, after reading the article from The Maui News “Hospital coming to West Maui; will doctors come too?” June 12. (I include Dr. Charlie Tsalamandris and Dr. Thomas Martens.)

One main issue raised was physician staffing. I would like to publicly editorialize our expressed interest in working and staffing at the future West Maui Hospital and Medical Center upon its construction completion.

Both Dr. Tsalamandris and myself are licensed in the state of Hawaii. I have worked and lived on Maui and worked as well on Oahu, Kauai and the Big Island. I was one of the initial proponents of the hospital years ago (while I was living on Maui), and I assisted Mr. Brian Hoyle in my letters as well as full support in the efforts to get the people of West Maui a hospital that it desperately needs.

We are three very well-trained and competent physicians. While we currently live away from Hawaii, we look forward to the warm aloha and kokua which will welcome us back home. We hope to provide loving care for our West Maui ohana as soon as possible. Mahalo nui loa.
