Expense of U.S. Embassy in Iraq boggles the mind
Re: July 11 letter “Middle East has proved to be a graveyard of empires”:
Thank you to this letter writer for his synopsis of the disastrous fallout from the U.S. intervention in the Middle East. It is refreshing to see such a concise and historically accurate account.
The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, mentioned by the letter writer, opened in January 2009 and was a creation of the Bush administration. It cost $750,000,000 to build, sits on 104 acres, employs thousands of people, and is the largest and most expensive embassy in the world. There is little or no discussion of this extravagance and waste. It boggles the mind.
