Return both Schatz and Abercrombie to office
For U.S. Senate: I have watched the debates and I see that Sen. Brian Schatz has been strong and effective, chairing multiple committees and authoring good legislation that became law. In the U.S. House, Rep. Colleen Hanabusa has not demonstrated any effectiveness. I just this moment heard her call for the immediate evacuation of the U.S. Embassy in Iraq, instead of protecting it (television debate, July 17).
She speaks thoughtlessly, out of desperation. She relies on the alleged support of the late Sen. Inouye, but that Senate seat is not his, it is ours. Not only that, but Sen. Inouye did not endorse her for this election. He suggested that Gov. Abercrombie consider appointing her until an election could be held, and she relies on that lukewarm, past endorsement from her late mentor. I support Sen. Brian Schatz.
For Governor: Neil Abercrombie has been able to make the tough calls and the entire state has come back from the brink of bankruptcy, without any tax increases, under his leadership. The teachers union is mad as heck at him, ignoring his call for pre-kindergarten for all 4-year-olds, which means jobs for teachers. The teachers themselves should look more closely at their own union leadership for failure after failure, mistake after mistake. Given the choice between Gov. Abercrombie or his opportunistic opponent, I continue to support the governor, as most of us have for many years, first as a representative in the U.S. House and now as our governor.
