Scientists not always right; let the people decide

The fact that someone is born and raised on a pig farm does not make that person an expert on GMO. Interviewing the president of the Maui Chamber of Commerce president about GMO is like asking a fence post to comment on nuclear energy (The Maui News, July 26).

It is true that government scientists unanimously contend that GMO products are safe. However, they have been wrong before.

There is a saying: “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” If some jobs are lost, that would be unfortunate, but the alternative may prove to be worse. Let the people decide.
