Waste issues need to be addressed with urgency

As a candidate for state representative in Kihei and as taxpayer, I am concerned about the hundred thousands of dollars in fines that Maui will pay for waste violations, published in The Maui News recently (July 14).

After speaking to Robin Knox, a candidate very knowledgeable on the subject, we are also subject to a million-dollar fine for the injection wells, just in Lahaina.

By not addressing the waste issue now, we are killing our reefs and ruining the environment we all enjoy and there are health consequences for ocean swimming. I urge the County Council to address these issues now to avoid these extremely high fines and apply these funds to build a better waste solution.
