Island tax rates need to reflect visitor impacts

As more and more island visitors decide to stay in short-term rental homes rather than traditional hotels, perhaps it is time to consider placing a hotel property tax rate on these short-term rental single family homes.

The swing from hotels to short-term rental homes appears to be increasing as visitors want houses with kitchens and yards; consequently, tax rates need to reflect these visitor impacts.
