KCA working to secure a safe greenway project

With our next membership community meeting over a month away, do you think we’re cooling it on the south side? Not so; just check our website, www.gokihei.org, or Facebook page, as entries are almost daily.

Leading off, our fundraising effort for marine water quality study has surpassed $10,000 as we churn toward our $12,000 goal.

Are you concerned about safety of where you and your ohana swim or fish? Consider making a donation for a unbiased scientific study to get true results.

Meanwhile, behind the scenes, we are helping to coordinate a community effort for a safe secure greenway extending from South Kihei Road to and under the Piilani Highway to the job site of the Kihei high school.

Such a progressive project takes cooperation of private landowners as well as county and state governments. The results would offer students and staff of that school, as well as all Kihei schools connecting to the north-south connector road corridor greenway, the ability to safely bicycle and walk to school with all the obvious advantages.

Then what is being planned for that March 21 meeting? Even though it is days after St. Paddy’s Day, it will be green.

Special guest Dr. Amanda Cording talks green streets, rain and green roof gardens, ecological (green) engineering — heck she may wear green clothing.

We’ll also hear from family farmer Vincent Mina about Hawaii Farmers Union United, certainly a green organization. I may have green hair. Check it out!
