Professional could expedite and improve process
Every year our council and mayor go through the grueling multi-month process of devising and approving a budget. This process is overly time consuming, often contentious, and takes our officials away from their real duties of governing. There is a better way!
The majority of municipalities our size nationwide utilize a professional and experienced administrator to work with a mayor and/or council to develop and approve their budget.
This credentialed administrator has proven credentials and experience in budget development. Their job is “budget development” as well as administration for the county.
Maui County could benefit greatly from “changing the process.” Introducing a professional administrator with specific budget duties would greatly expedite and improve this process.
The budget is an administrative task, it is not a “governing” task. Let the mayor and or council govern as is their expertise. Let the professional administrator “administrate” and support our government and its officials.
How do we do this? Have a professional, proven and experienced county manager have a place in Maui government. More professionalism and expertise would be a benefit for the taxpayers and our busy administrators and legislators.
When the opportunity becomes available, we need to support the concept of a proven executive as a county manager.
