Encourage council to act on affordable housing

I attended the Chamber/Maui County Affordable Housing Summit on June 30. Most of the speakers agreed on one theme — we must work together to solve this community problem. However, I did not hear any new way to do this. FACE Maui believes that we need an outside entity to bring us together and the council agreed and appropriated $250,000 to do that.

I urge all attendees at the housing summit to encourage the County Council to hire this outside entity within the next three months. Our people are hurting and it is not acceptable that our children and grandchildren are doubling up with family, living in cars or moving to the Mainland.

All of us need to put our personal agendas aside and work together to make our land pono for Maui County’s residents.
