Incomplete understanding about fire and sprinklers
The resident manager’s comment in the July 23 story about the Puuone Tower building being safer because the outer structure won’t burn as readily shows he has an incomplete understanding about fire and fire sprinklers.
Fire sprinkler systems are designed to control fires inside the structure — i.e., the contents of each room. The furniture and other items inside the rooms and offices will burn, and burn readily. That’s what the sprinkler systems are for.
Thinking that you’re safe from fire because you’re in a building made of cement and steel is a dangerous fallacy.
