Veteran stands up for VA health care system
In reference to a letter on July 2: I’m a Vietnam veteran who will stand up for the health care system. I’ve been in the program for over 20 years here on Maui. The doctors are some of the best, and medication has a reasonable deductible because the VA bids on the cost of prescriptions.
It is true that some veterans have trouble getting into the system to start with but some of the reasons for this are that the Congress won’t approve enough funding for the system to actually work. The Medicare system would work much better if it was set up like the VA and everyone in this country could receive decent health care by paying into it.
It seems hypocritical that our politicians get the best health care, and don’t help other American citizens get similar coverage of any kind.
