Residents helped at boat ramp during king tide

Aloha is alive and well. I am writing to share our extreme gratitude for several Kihei residents who helped at the boat ramp on Aug. 18.

We returned to the harbor early afternoon to find both docks almost submerged (king tide?) with rocking, following seas. Vandy from Blue Water Rafting probably saw my leg braces as I jumped, or rather washed, onto the dock with my husband having his hands full maintaining distance at the helm. Vandy popped over to man another rope and kept our hull from harm with experience and hefty muscles while my captain lowered the fenders. The wind was raucous.

I was surprised to see our luck holding out as we pushed and pulled her onto the trailer. Several wahines and their sons allowed us to back into the only freshwater wash available by moving their vehicle, and I celebrate everyone’s kindnesses. And, mahalo nui loa to the major repairs at the blessed boat ramp. Maui and its people are truly no ka oi.
