Tragic figure is far from honest with self and others
Thanks to The Maui News for reporting on the “Wall Street Whiz Kid,” Robert Bodden for “defrauding (the) nonprofit,” Lokelani Ohana (Aug. 15). It was made clear that his plea of “no contest” was a plea of guilty as charged. “Bodden said he wanted to offer ‘my humblest apology’ to (Christina) Chang,” the director of Lokelani Ohana.
However, he then went on to say that he had “noble intentions” in his dealings with Ms. Chang. Creating a bank account using her credit card and running up a debt of $20,000 hardly qualifies as being noble.
What comes across to me is a tragic figure who is far from being honest with himself as well as with others. It is good that Ms. Chang blew the whistle on Bodden and that his record for such dishonesty was not expunged. This red flag may serve as a warning for others not to trust such an individual.
Besides his two months in jail, Bodden was sentenced to four years of probation and 200 hours of community service. This seems just. Perhaps it will wake him up for a new way of life. It might be well for him to read a set of lectures titled “The Karma of Untruthfulness” by Rudolf Steiner.
