Bullhorn bigotry does not lead to conversion
I read with dismay the news of religious bullying on Nov. 12 at Iao United Church of Christ (The Maui News, Nov. 17). The perpetrator is not engaged in any sort of legitimate evangelism; rather he is saying, “Believe as I do or you are doomed!”
We heard that relentless message a week ago during Second Friday in Lahaina; what had been an enjoyable evening was drowned out by bullhorn bigotry. Conversion does not come through oppressive proclamation; conversion comes from acts of kindness, service and mutuality.
