Hawaii readers won’t be disappointed by new novel

We just finished reading an engaging novel, “Left at Hiva Oa,” written by first-time Maui author Malia Bohlin and based on her father’s 1962 Pacific sailing adventure. Capt. Ken Bohlin, after dismissing his crew in the Marquesan Island of Hiva Oa, attempted a solo voyage to Hawaii.

Malia takes us through her father’s challenges and triumphs, helping those of us in Hawaii experience the Pacific in new ways. Kudos to Malia Bohlin for a well-researched, exciting story, lovingly told. This book should provide broad-based appeal to readers of many ages and serve as an inspiration particularly to young readers.

Hawaii readers won’t be disappointed by this new novel.
