Housing project will make 25 Hana families happy

Twenty-five lucky families in Hana will now be able to plan for their future in a new home. On Nov. 17, the Maui County Council approved, on second and final reading, a seven-acre affordable housing project.

In the course of five months, Hana residents attended public meetings, forwarded comments and enthusiastically advocated for the 25-lot subdivision that all agreed was so desperately needed.

Land Use Committee Chair Bob Carroll diligently, professionally and ever so patiently shepherded the cause through the sometimes trying and exacting vetting process to provide what all families want: a loving and nurturing place to call home. It’s legislation like this that once again shines a harsh light on the lack of housing in our county. We must work to make more initiatives like the Hana Affordable Housing project a reality, and we can.

A heartfelt mahalo to Bob and members of the County Council, you have made 25 families very, very happy.
