Arbitrary bureaucratic rulings hurt community

Checking out Christmas trees in the Lahaina Cannery Mall, I found the Rotary folks on the grass selling trees for $80 with all profits going to local youth groups.

I learned that for approximately 10 years the charitable group sold the trees next to the highway but are now forbidden due to parking regulations! They are not allowed banners to let people know about the trees, with fines of $450 a day!

Remember the group in Wailea that couldn’t give out awards to students as liquor was being served and the awards had to be videotaped in another room!

Rules are not made to thwart community organizations in bettering the community. Arbitrary bureaucratic rulings sound like “A Christmas Carol’s” Scrooge bellowing “humbug.”
