Judges on the Mainland have to run for election

Maui News readers must suffer a strange confusion when reading national news articles like the judge failing to get re-elected releasing all his court cases/freeing all charged prisoners.

Electing judges, you say? Yes, in the USA judges, sheriffs, coroners and treasurers must run for election on a regular basis to prevent corruption. Maybe that is why these islands are so dysfunctional, corruption is incorporated instead of prevented.

Why Hawaii doesn’t elect judges like they do in the USA has always bothered me. This is a position in our government quite easily abused and never meant to be career. I have a feeling these career judges know they are grossly un-American and don’t care. Revolution can’t be far off hopefully, if not the rot is permanent and disgraceful.
