Kihei schools, award presentation on agenda

As we submit this missive, we await the results of the election on Nov. 6. By now it is published, everyone is aware, and a majority of voters are satisfied as the majority decided who was elected. We may also say a very strong majority of the community is concerned about education, so hopefully are pleased it’s the focus of our event on Nov. 20, as the Kihei Community Association general membership meeting at 6:30 p.m. at St. Teresa Church Hall, 25 W. Lipoa St. will be exploring aspects of education. But first order of business is yet one more vote, cast by the membership for the 2019 board of directors.

We welcome Department of Education Complex Area Superintendent Kathleen Dimino, offering a brief presentation and soliciting the community’s opinions on schools in our area. We will also hear from others on what is happening with the new DOE high school and with the new Kihei Charter School building.

Finally, we will bestow this year’s KCA Wiliwili Warrior Award to a career educator who never stopped educating the community, Dick Mayer.

This final meeting for the 2018 is your last chance for a donation to the Maui Food Bank. Donations were way down last month, so at this time of giving thanks, please recall those in need.

Open to all; membership is not required, but encouraged. See www.gokihei.org to become a member or sign up for our newsletter. More information, call (508) 499-9996. Like it? Like us on Facebook.
