Law regarding dumping in park dumpsters not enforced

Some local residents are dumping trash into park dumpsters. There are signs “for park use only” “Hawaiian Revised Statute 339-4(E) allows for $500 fine or 40 hours of picking up trash in public areas for each offense or both.”

I have watched them pull up, throw trash into a dumpster, when full they put it on the ground around the dumpster. The driver must empty the container, get out, pick up the trash, place it in the container and empty it again.

As a law-abiding resident, I pay $384 yearly for trash removal. We are paying to have park dumpsters emptied two times a week so others don’t have to pay for their own trash removal. This has been going on too long with no penalties for illegal offenders.

When our government passes a law, has signs made and installed, why don’t we enforce the laws? The parks department should install a camera at the dumpster location and follow through with the penalties to the full extent of law. The park dumpsters could be removed and replaced with a plastic container like we use at our homes. Just how much trash is generated at a park in a week?

All politicians in office or who will be sworn in soon will take an oath to uphold all the laws of the country, state and county. Let’s hold them to their oath. It they don’t want to enforce the laws as written, then they should change them, not ignore them.
