Looking forward to new Maui County Council
I look forward with great anticipation about the new County Council leadership.
While I have reservations about some of their policy views, and see some of their philosophy as limited in scope, I believe their aspirations, new leadership and new energy will revitalize the council — a body that has been woefully inept for the past few years dealing with major Maui problems like homelessness, failing to regulate an out-of-control downhill bicycle business that seriously jeopardized the safety of both bike riders and drivers, low-cost housing and delivering a ballot initiative after four years of study that allows the citizens, not the council, to determine how Maui is governed.
Can this new group do better? I think they might and, in spite of my reservations about them, as politicians elected by a majority of voters they have been given and deserve a chance!
