Build artificial reefs to prevent coastal erosion

I went to a presentation by Michael Foley, a coastal engineer, about preventing coastal erosion and I think we should say yes to protect our beaches from erosion by building artificial reefs. Eighty percent of Maui’s beaches are eroding and we need to do something before we lose most of our beaches.

He talked about how artificial reefs can save our beaches. The artificial reefs will prevent big waves from dragging all the sand and making the coastline steeper and eventually causing the beaches to disappear. Artificial reefs can also make a building fish habitat and for coral polyps to land on and form coral. You can go to Environmental Notice online to know what’s going on in our coastlines and other environmental projects.
