KCA committed to pedestrian safety
The Kihei Community Association has been steadfast in its commitment to making Kihei a walkable/bikeable town. They recently pressured the state Land Use Commission to accept the recommendation of the community, the safe routes to school and our own open space master plan for a pedestrian underpass for Piilani Highway to access the new high school despite a state recommendation for a new stoplight and crosswalk. The official was instructed to go back and try again.
The public needs to continue to follow this issue and also attend the next KCA community meeting March 19 when the Maui Metropolitan Planning Organization will reveal its plan for bike/pedestrian projects that were prioritized in community meetings over the last year, with funding proposals included. This is your chance to affect just what we would like to see prioritized for state and federal funding to create the transportation system that reflects the vision of Kihei as a safe place to walk and bike. Go Kihei!
