While driving at the speed limit to get gas at Costco on what is Haleakaka Highway on the airport side of the road, I hit a large pothole which I did not see! Total damage to my Mini-Cooper sports coupe exceeded $2,000: tires, frame, labor, etc. I will get absolutely no relief from all involved: the insurance company and those governmental agencies responsible for my well-being and the proper care of the roads!

Space, time and my current disposition do not allow me to detail the reasons for their lack of financial assistance, but know I am still fuming with an underlying, bordering rage for the whole incident. Our state and county roads are in horrible condition and have been for a while. Take a ride on Makawao Avenue on the way to Haiku and get a firsthand experience, or take any of the Lower Kula road extensions. Better yet, take the route that wrecked my car and checkbook!

The world’s favorite island has some of the world’s worst roads, especially for the local population doomed to drive them daily!
