The Bald-Headed Truth

POSTED:Wed, April 30, 2008 @ 4:15AM

Victorino activated, doesn’t start

Shane Victorino, the second major leaguer ever from Maui and the first in 77 years, was activated from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday by the Philadelphia Phillies, but didn’t start the game in his usual center field spot.

Jason Werth is on fire and he started the Phils’ 7-4 win over San Diego. Werth went 1-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and a run.

Victorino entered in the eighth inning, went 0-for-1 and saw his batting average fall to .229. Werth is hitting .289.

"Anybody would be mad. Wouldn't you?" Victorino said to MLB.com. "But the team has been playing great. I haven't lost my job. I got hurt. I'm not worried."

He reiterated the ‘‘I got hurt’’ quote later in the story.

Charlie Manuel, the manager, says it is a season-long plan to play four outfielders, so I don’t think Victorino needs to worry too much.

Tell Shane to focus on playing better and improving himself. Baseball is a team sport. See ball, hit ball; Shane can do it when he gets in a grove.
