Writer's Block

POSTED:Mon, May 5, 2008 @ 9:22PM

Quit your day job.

Chris Hart, I know you've dedicated your life to planning. But I'm urging you now, please stop. Because you have a higher calling: making donuts.

I am addicted to those donuts, Chris. Glazed, plain. Plain, glazed. Apparently you have other flavors -- cinnamon, chocolate, even strawberry-guava -- but why would I order them? Is it possible to improve on perfection? No.

These donuts have a great flavor, a mild sweetness, infused with the taste of cooking oil, but it's the tender, cakey crumb that really takes them to a higher level. And I love the tight little shape, fist-sized, with more of a piko than a puka.

So I'm asking you, pick up that mixer full time. Yes, planning is very important for the future. But donuts bring us happiness now.

Chris Hart's "Dad's Donut Shop" is located at the corner of Central and Vineyard in Wailuku.
