The Bald-Headed Truth

POSTED:Tue, May 13, 2008 @ 6:30PM

Unger added to Rimington list

It was an unbelievable omission when Max Unger, the former Hawaii Preparatory Academy standout who is a rising senior at Oregon, was left off the 2008 Rimington Trophy watch list of 42 released last week.

The award is given to the best center in the nation and Unger was first-team All-American (for Sports Illustrated) and first-team All-Pac-10 Conference last season.

Anyway, the oversight has been corrected and the list is now 43 (including Unger). Click the link to check out a blog that explains it all pretty well.

I remember Max Unger in the 2003 season here on Maui in a state DII game played at War Meorial Stadium as it was Lahainaluna defeating Hawaii Prep 21-14, in a great game that also featured an exciting runningback named Mike Kopra from the Big Island...Max was a stud then & he deserves all the recognition his hard work is gaining for him--Iam sure his highschool position O-line Coach Coach Bern Brostek is pround at HPA

Yeah, man. Only Maui matters on Maui. Why does the paper even cover professional or college sports on the mainland? Nobody who lives here is from any of those places or has been to any of those places or has any friends or family who have been to any of those places or live in those places. Except the two guys from Maui in the major leagues. Those are the only two guys on the mainland that The Maui News should have in the sports pages.
