April 22, 2011 - Carla Tracy
The Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa’s newest restaurant will make quite a splash today with the debut of a fun dinner series. Japengo, a Pacific Rim Restaurant and Sushi Lounge will launch the new series with the theme, Sushi & Sake.
Every third Friday of the month at this oceanfront Kaanapali restaurant, you’ll find a new prix-fixe tasting menu of inspired Pacific Rim cuisine paired with various wines, spirits and other libations.
Kicking off the series, Executive Chef Matt Smith and Sushi Chef Jay Ledee present seven courses of Japengo dishes with premier sake and a bit of bubbly for good measure.
It all starts at 6 p.m. in Japengo’s Sushi Lounge, where guests will enjoy an interactive and educational evening with sake pairing notes, tastes and takeaway gifts. Hyatt Regency Maui will donate $10 from all tickets sold for the Sushi & Sake debut dinner to the Visitors Industry Charity Walk.
“Japengo is Maui’s most vibrant dining destination, and the Sushi Lounge is quickly becoming a top pick for locals to mix, mingle and enjoy truly unique cuisine,” says Michael Jokovich, General Manager with Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa. “Our goal is continue to surprise guests’ palates with an event series that highlights the incredible locally-sourced products we use and the talent we have behind the bar and sushi counter.”
