Na Koa game off tonight, season over?

August 10, 2011 - Robert Collias
These two announcements were posted on Na Koa Ikaika Maui's Facebook page within the last hour:

An Unfortunate Announcement: Tonight's game will be postponed. The Lake County Fielders did not board their flight to Maui as planned. We will keep everyone updated as we get more information. We apologize for the inconvenience. Mahalo!

UPDATE! Our team will take the field tonight at Iron Maehera for inter-squad fun and some other fun surprises! Come get some autographs and photos with the boys (and girl!). A day without baseball is like a day without sunshine! Free admission! 6:30pm!

This after Na Koa team vice president Bob Elder took the microphone during the fifth inning at last night's game and stated that the final home series, tonight through Saturday, was on. Lake County has its own problems, for sure, but if the Fielders did not travel yesterday on a day off for them, I find it troubling that that announcement was made last night in front of what Na Koa officials announced as a crowd of 934.

I also find it impossbile to imagine that only tonight's game is "postponed." Are the Fielders going to come for Thursday's game? Friday? Saturday?

Does Maui go on the road to Lake County for the first 11 games of its season-ending 23-game road trip? Does Maui play again this season? Or ever?

I have been trying — in vain — to get the answers to these and other questions from the Maui front office for a while now and I will be at the stadium tonight to find out what is going on and get some reaction.

Stay tuned right here.
