Rick Perry, bigot

December 7, 2011 - Harry Eagar
I don't like bigots. I have had more experience with Christian bigots, because there are more Christians, and being an ignorant Christian bigot is a point of honor in the South.

If you haven't encountered it personally, you cannot quite imagine how smug and disgusting Southern Christianity is. There are exceptions, but not many.

Gov. Rick Perry of Texas throws in with the worst of them.

Hat tip: Charles Johnson

UPDATE, Friday.

According to Johnson, some dimbulb in the Perry campaign forgot to switch off the Like/Dislike button on the Youtube video. The count as of Thursday morning: 42,000 dislikes, fewer than 1,000 likes.

I do not suppose this comes near to assessing the real impact of the ad, especially among its target audience of antihomosexual bigots, just that the antibigot sector saw its chance and took it.

According to an NPR report from the Republican Jewish conference yesterday, Perry was trying to explain away his position. I guess they're not real big on thinking 15 minutes ahead in the Perry campaign.
