| | Cyr leads in Asian Tour qualifyingJanuary 13, 2012 - Robert ColliasSam Cyr, the recently crowned Hawaii State Open champion and King Kekaulike High School graduate, is currently playing the final round of the Asian Tour first stage qualifier at the Springfield Golf Course. Cyr, a two-time NAIA champion for Point Loma Nazarene and winner of the 2010 Mid-Pac Open and 2011 Maui Open, leads through three rounds at 11-under 205. He is in Thailand, 18 hours ahead of us, so I will update after completion of his final round. He appears to be a lock to continue to next week's final stage, where 40 Asian Tour cards will be up for grabs. He has played in PGA Tour Q School each of the last three years, advancing to the second stage twice and bowing out in the first stage in October 2011. He is the lead of a link on the front page of the Asian Tour website, although the link goes nowhere. Doing well on the Asian Tour can lead to the European Tour, which in turn can lead to the PGA Tour, which, I believe, is Cyr's ultimate destination.
